What Makes a Church Successful? Is it lots of money? A great preacher? Great outreach programs and internal programming? Oddly enough, the early church didn't have that and yet they turned the world upside down. What did they have that made the difference? What made the church successful? How many of you like getting caught for doing something wrong? That’s a silly question right? The answer is: none of us want to get caught for doing something wrong. And there aren’t too many of us who like a bunch of rules that we have to follow either. In today’s study Paul writes that the rules God gives us, or the Law, are not bad. They just expose everyone’s wrongdoing. Though we can’t obey God’s Law without the help of the Spirit, the Law is still needed to reveal our sinful ways. Sin can be extremely defeating. It can demoralize a person to the point that they give up. Paul’s letter emphasizes how grace has the power to free people from the defeat sin can bring. The Law has no power either. No longer does the believer live by a list of rules and regulations but by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Freedom is at hand beloved, stay tuned. Thanks for listening! We’re almost halfway through this sermon series on Ephesians and it’s been a great trip so far. So here’s a question...did you like a good mystery? I don’t mean the ’whodunnit’ type. In today’s study we’re going to do something different. We’re going to contrast Adam and Christ. We’ll study about Adam’s influence on the human race and the devastating consequences it had. Then we’ll contrast that with Christ’s influence on the human race. We’ll see how Christ’s death brings justification and salvation. In our text today Paul tells us WE have found something others may not have noticed and he says that it is important that we KNOW what we have found, because WHEN we know what we have it can make us very well-off. Peace, grace and hope are promised to those who believe in Jesus Christ. Yet the problems, trials and suffering that invade our lives can make these promises seem far in the distance.
