So far in this series we’ve talked about the Bible, God and Jesus. Today we’re going to talk about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the most misunderstood and least talked about part of the God-head. So we’re going to change that, we’re going to talk about Him...a lot. In fact there’s so much to share it’s going to take us a total of 5-Sundays to do it. Have you ever heard anyone say, “Jesus was a great moral teacher, and certainly a good man, but he was not the Son of God?” Or something similar? Many people have said something similar— politicians, celebrities and religious leaders. Even the Dalai Lama made a statement to that effect once. Everyone needs encouragement. But encouragement needs to reflect truth. We can do more harm than good by creating a false reality in the name of hope. This can also happen when we cross the line between hope and wishing or if we confuse those two things. The Bible describes hope as a confident assurance based on God’s promises. Those promises can be trusted because they originate with the One who is truth Himself. Today we’ll talk about how God offers hope in the midst of judgment to those who trust in Him, so let’s go! Today we begin our study of the Book of Ezekiel. In 597 BC, during the second siege of Judah, the Babylonians took exiles from Judah. Ezekiel was among those seized and sent to Babylon. Even though His people were dispersed, the Lord would not forsake them. He used Ezekiel to let the people of Israel know He was not finished with them. So often at Christmas people celebrate the story of the birth of Jesus, attend nativity plays, sing carols and enjoy the festivities. But they miss out on the real significance of all of it. Jesus said in John 10:10 that He came to give life and to give it in all its fullness. We were all created for a purpose and we can discover that purpose through knowing Jesus.
