In the simplest of terms, Palm Sunday is an opportunity to reflect upon the final week of Jesus' life. Jesus did not deny the image that the crowd expected—the fulfillment of the hopes of Israel that He would be their earthly king, destroying the Roman government. Instead, Jesus humbly entered Jerusalem to give His life on a cross, saving mankind from sin and death. One day, Jesus will return gloriously as a mighty warrior in battle (Rev 19:11–16). Many of us have a hard time saying “I’m sorry” because we struggle to admit that we are wrong. Apologizing places us in a vulnerable situation because we are confessing our failure to someone. Yet the forgiveness that comes after admitting our mistake can restore a relationship, and it often actually strengthens it. We live in a temporal world. But one thing is certain and that is the return of Jesus. He told His disciples in Matt 24:30-31 that His coming will part the sky and every eye will see Him. Pride is such an ugly word. We may even characterize ourselves as self-confident to avoid thinking of ourselves as prideful. Many of us live life as though we are the ones in control of what happens.
