Today we’re going to tackle an issue that is rampant in society—sexual immorality. We have “adult bookstores” in most towns and pornography is the most profitable business on the Internet. This same kind of addiction was evident in Corinth as well. In today’s study the apostle Paul is going to address this issue directly and he’s also going to teach us about self-control—not allowing ourselves to be controlled either by non-helpful habits or serious sin. What do you think of when you hear the phrase “Power Plays”? Some will relate it to athletic events and yet some will relate it more to interpersonal or organizational matters. Can there be power plays within the church? Yes there can. In fact in today’s study Paul rebukes the church in Corinth for getting caught up in making Christianity about them and not about the Kingdom. How can we avoid doing that? In Ecc 4, Solomon deals with an issue that frustrates many people in our world. It’s the issue of “unfairness”—that things just aren’t always right and fair in this life. Inside each one of us is an inner voice that tells us that all things should be fair. But then we see oppression, tragedy and sorrow and we say, “Well that’s just not right,” or “This shouldn’t be happening!” What then are we to do?
