Jul 5 – 1 Timothy, Pt 3 – Instructions for Worship

In today’s study we’ll find that the Apostle Paul's corrective instructions go against the status quo. No doubt a number of people were upset: Those who neglected evangelism, the men who worshipped while engaged in bitter disputes and the women who were usurping authority in the church. But Paul's instructions were necessary to help the church at Ephesus become stable and strong. Taking steps to correct wrong directions and false doctrine are never easy. Jun 21 – 1 Timothy, Pt 1 – Paul’s Introduction & Warnings Against False Teaching

Welcome to our new 12-week Bible study on 1 & 2 Timothy. Today we begin with 1 Timothy 1:1-11. One of the repeated and stressed themes in 1 Timothy is the tight connection between belief and behavior, or teaching and practice. Sound, or “healthy,” teaching leads to godliness while false teaching is unpro­ductive at best and damning at worst. From the onset of the letter, Paul charges Timothy to “instruct certain people not to teach any different doctrine.” Who are these “certain people” and what is Timothy supposed to say? Jesus prayed to the Father for us in John 17:17 when He said, “Make them holy by Your truth; teach them Your Word, which is truth.” (NLT) Essentially, Jesus is telling us that the Bible you hold in your hands is TRUTH. The Bible is like an ancient boundary marker, it marks the beginning and the ending of truth. But what is a boundary marker and why should we protect them? Jun 7 – 2 Peter, Pt 13 – Anticipating the Lord’s Coming

Today is the last study of this series about 1 & 2 Peter. So we’re going to study 2 Pet 3. At this point Peter was finished with the difficult part of his second letter. He used strong words to denounce the false prophets and their misguided teachings. He had made it clear that they faced certain doom for the damage they were doing to the spiritual lives of immature believers.
